Challenge / context
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) requires reliable, fast turnaround fleet support to keep emergency vehicles operational across the state. Vehicles need to be fitted out, commissioned, decommissioned, and upgraded in tight timeframes, with consistent quality and compliance with QFES operational standards.

Under the QFD contract, Allweld has become a key partner to QFES, providing the technical capability, repeatable processes, and delivery performance needed to support a high volume emergency service fleet program.

Solution – what Allweld delivered

Allweld delivers specialised vehicle fit outs for emergency response platforms, including electrical systems integration, communications equipment installation, and operational configuration tailored to QFES requirements. Dedicated project teams are trained specifically in emergency service fit outs to ensure accuracy, safety, and repeatable outcomes.

The scope of work also includes fabrication and assembly of high reliability components, as well as commissioning and decommissioning services. Allweld developed standardised work procedures, check sheets, and parts templates to drive build consistency and quality across the range of vehicle types covered by the contract.

Structured workflow and turnaround performance

To meet QFES demands, Allweld established a structured workflow that supports a consistent 10 day turnaround for commissioning and decommissioning activities. Clear processes, documentation, and quality checks ensure vehicles are returned to service quickly without compromising on safety or reliability.

This disciplined approach, combined with strong communication and coordination with QFES, has enabled Allweld to scale its support and take on a broader scope of work within the QFD program.

Ongoing service support and outcomes

Beyond initial fit outs and contract deliverables, Allweld provides ongoing service support, defect management, and component upgrades to minimise downtime for frontline equipment. The team works closely with QFES representatives to maintain compliance with operational requirements and continuously improve documentation and production methods.
The QFD contract demonstrates Allweld’s ability to manage high volume, fast turnaround fleet programs for emergency services, delivering dependable quality, operational reliability, and strong client confidence across the full lifecycle of the vehicles.

The Challenge

We were contacted by First Responders on a barrier island off the coast of Queensland, who needed a boat with the capacity to function like an ambulance. The vessel needed to be fast, safe and capable of providing emergency medical services. Additionally, it required an electrical system robust enough to handle refrigeration and other essential emergency equipment. The challenge was to design a craft that could meet these specific requirements and operate efficiently in demanding conditions.

Our Solution

To address the client’s needs, we conducted detailed consultations to understand their specific requirements. Using our advanced CAD-CAM and CNC machinery, we designed a solution that we knew could be produced with precision. Our skilled welders then executed the modifications on a commercial vessel, ensuring all components were seamlessly integrated. The design included spaces for medical equipment, a patient bed, secure storage and an electrical system capable of supporting refrigeration and other emergency devices, all while maintaining the vessel’s speed and safety.

The Result

The project resulted in a highly capable ambulance boat that exceeded the client’s expectations. The customised vessel provided a safe and efficient solution for transporting patients and delivering emergency medical care. This successful project underscored our understanding that equipment for first responders must be designed intuitively, supporting collaborative efforts to heal the sick and alleviate suffering.

The Challenge

Allweld was approached by a military client requiring modifications to their existing fleet of vehicles and equipment to make them suitable for the harsh and demanding conditions of the Australian bush. The vehicles needed enhancements for rough terrain, extreme temperatures and remote operation capabilities, ensuring both reliability and durability.

Our Solution

To meet these needs, Allweld designed and implemented a comprehensive set of modifications. We upgraded the suspension systems and fitted all-terrain tyres to handle the rugged landscape. Reinforced armour was added for protection against environmental hazards and advanced cooling systems were installed to prevent overheating. We also enhanced dust and water sealing to protect vital components and integrated long-range communication systems for maintaining connectivity in remote areas.

Fuel efficiency was improved and fuel tank capacity was increased to extend operational range. Additional storage spaces were created for essential supplies and camouflage features were applied to blend with the bush environment. We equipped the vehicles with emergency medical kits and recovery gear, including winches, to handle difficult terrains. Lastly, we enhanced lighting systems and integrated night vision capabilities for low visibility operations.

The Result

The project resulted in a fleet of military vehicles that were robust, reliable and fully equipped for the challenging conditions of the Australian bush. The modifications ensured that the vehicles could operate efficiently and effectively in remote and rugged terrains, providing the military with enhanced operational capabilities. The client was highly satisfied with the outcome, which demonstrated Allweld’s expertise in custom modifications. This project highlighted our ability to deliver solutions that meet the unique demands of specialised environments.
